How to pick a SGC tier
Choose the cheapest tier whose maximum declared value is at or above what the card will be worth after grading. If a card comes back worth more than the tier allows, graders charge an upcharge to the right tier, so a card you expect to be a high-value 10 should be declared at that value up front.
The calculator does this automatically: set the company to SGC, leave the service tier on “Auto”, and it picks the cheapest tier that covers your highest graded value.
Worked example
A card you could sell raw for $40 that sells for $150 as a 10. At Standard, up to $1,500 (40+ days) ($50.00), total cost is the $40 card plus $50.00 plus $10 shipping = $100.00. A 10 nets about $124.72 after eBay fees and shipping, so the profit at a 10 is $24.72. Anything below a 10 usually loses money on a card like this.
